Inspired by the gecko foot, nanostructured adhesive devices are being developed as minimally invasive technologies to seal wounds and deliver drugs in situ. All these tasks are very difficult to accomplish by sutures or staples that are invasive to host organs and often cause scarring. This review highlights the major advances in gecko-inspired bioadhesives that are material based with nanostructured topographies and demonstrated capabilities to seal effectively different wounded tissues.
