Graphene Membrane for Water Purification with High Water Flux

We have modified the porosity, which is the interlayer spacing of graphene oxide membrane, by adding a cationic surfactant- ‘cetyltrimethylammonium bromide’ between the two layers. This modification in the structure of GO membrane offers high water flux without compromising the ability to completely reject large molecules such as sucrose. The selective rejection of sucrose, which is a common draw in Forward Osmosis process, suggests that our modified GO membranes have the potential to improve the efficiency of the Forward Osmosis method.
