Hard wear resistant graded coatings

The study focuses on the development of durable ternary CrN-based coatings for applications in advanced industrial machining operations. The coatings were deposited on high speed tool steel substrates using a versatile PVD sputtering method known as closed field unbalanced magnetron sputtering. These coatings were shown to exhibit remarkable plastic deformation and wear resistance under severe dynamic loading conditions that are characteristic of advanced machining operations.
