A proper way to measure aerosol size.

Cascade impactors are the essential tools in aerosol drug delivery and environmental research to fractionate aerosols by aerodynamic diameter. A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model was developed to investigate flow characteristics and particle deposition behaviour in an Andersen cascade impactor (ACI). The effort of flow rate was evaluated and it was shown that operating the ACI at high flow rates magnifies the cross-flow interactions and recirculation vortices, thus reducing the impactor performance.
