Professor Aibing Yu Awarded ARC Federation Fellowship

Prof Aibing Yu
The Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and the Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research, Senator Kim Carr, have announced that a leading academic in the School, Professor Aibing Yu, has been awarded a five-year Federation Fellowship, the highest recognition available to Australian Researchers from the Australian Research Council. Professor Yu is one of Australia’s leading academic researchers with a formidable international reputation, specializing in the field of particulate modelling and process engineering. Professor Yu’s research achievements cover areas ranging from mineral processing in the metallurgical and mining industries, to nano-particulate drug delivery systems.

Originally a graduate of North Eastern University in China, Professor Yu started at the School of Materials at UNSW as a lecturer in 1992. He was rapidly promoted, becoming a Professor in 2001 and, in 2007, was awarded two of the University’s highest academic titles, Scientia Professor and Doctor of Science.

Professor Yu is a former President of the Australian Chinese Scholars' Association and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering. He has received numerous awards and prizes internationally and is a member of a number of professional societies. He has over 400 refereed publications to his name, covering all areas ranging from physics to chemical engineering and has graduated over 30 PhD students.

Aibing’s receipt of a Federation Fellowship is clearly well deserved.
