Welcome to the School’s final newsletter for 2014. The School has enjoyed considerable successes this year, not least in securing over $12M in Australian Research Council funding through various schemes over the year. Against a backdrop of severely tightening research grant funding this is an outstanding achievement.
As we move towards the end of the year we will bid farewell to Zongyan Zhou and Xuchuan Jiang who will both join the Chemical Engineering Department at Monash University in the New Year. However, we welcome Dewei Chu, who recently took up his Future Fellowship in the School as a Senior Lecturer, Claudio Cazorla, who will take up his Future Fellowship early in 2015, and Rakesh Joshi, who will join the School as a Lecturer in January. Rakesh will work with Veena Sahajwalla’s group looking to prepare graphene-based materials from waste carbon sources.
As noted elsewhere, the School’s new building is rapidly nearing completion. Over the coming months the School will begin the challenging task of moving into its sparkling new home. Apparently, moving house is ranked as the third most stressful life event…all being well we can achieve our massive relocation in a relaxed and comfortable manner! I do hope everyone enjoys reading the stories in this newsletter and I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and successful New Year.
