Welcome from Head of School
Later in April, Professor Aibing Yu will leave UNSW and join Monash University to take up a position as Pro Vice-Chancellor and President of the Monash University-Southeast University Joint Research Institute in China. Aibing will continue to have a strong association with UNSW through an appointment as a visiting professor. Aibing has enjoyed a highly prestigious career at UNSW and we wish him well in this exciting new appointment.
The new Materials Science and Engineering building is growing into the sky at a furious pace. It already dwarfs the neighbouring Australian Business School building. A more detailed report is given elsewhere in the New Building update section.
Late last year we were delighted to learn that a young Indian student, Uttam Mitta, had, from a field of 37,000 entrants, won the ‘Win Your Future Unlimited Competition’ competition sponsored by the Australian Government. Uttram has been awarded a scholarship to take up postgraduate study at the School of Materials Science and Engineering at UNSW.
We are pleased to launch our new School website. The site has been completely overhauled with revised content and a new layout. If you have any comments in relation to the new website please pass them along to Joanne Hallis at email@example.com
Finally, our Marketing and Outreach Officer, Juanita Vargas, has recently established a LinkedIn UNSW Materials Science and Engineering Alumni group. If you would like to join please email Juanita on firstname.lastname@example.org
