Our Academic and Research staff achieved great success during the first part of 2015 obtaining a wide range of research grants including MREII, Faculty Research and Goldstar and Silverstar grants.
Alumni Profile: Holstein Wong, Process Engineer BHP Billiton
Holstein Wong graduated from the School in 2013 with 1st Class Honours in BEng Materials Science and Engineering. She was awarded the University Medal in Ceramic Engineering, one of the most distinguished awards to be bestowed on an undergraduate student. Holstein is now a Graduate Processing Engineer for BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance.
Staff News: Teaching Awards, Promotions and New Staff
Associate Professor Sammy Chan received the 2014 ‘Vice Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence’. Professor Chan’s success follows a long tradition of teaching staff in the School winning this award. It is a highly prestigious and regarded award which is presented to the most outstanding teachers in the University. Professor Chan has a long track record in the School as a gifted and dedicated teacher and this prize is testimony to his efforts in this area.
Save the date: 2015 Alumni and Friends Evening
A cocktail party to celebrate the School's history and achivements and to celebrate the opening of the new Materials Science and Engineering building will be held on Thursday 23 July, 2015. This will be a unique opportunity for Alumni, Industry Partners, present and past Staff to re-connect, share memories and celebrate and enjoy the School's new home.
Opening of the Materials Science Building
The School has finally taken occupancy of the new ‘Materials Science and Engineering’ building. The main part of the building was completed and handed over to the University in March this year. The School currently occupies most of the basement and ground floor as well as levels 1-4.
