Industrial Training

Ceramic / Materials / Metallurgy Students

Each student should gain a minimum of 12 weeks (i.e. 60 working days) professionally oriented or industrial experience. This is a requirement of professional recognition of the courses by the Institution of Engineers, Australia.

The student may be employed in any capacity associated with the manufacture of products eg. production, quality control, chemical analysis, plant maintenance, drawing office duties, or research in materials processing, materials engineering and materials characterisation. It is desirable that the student be assigned to some member of the technical staff in the plant who will give general guidance on the work to be undertaken.

A list of suitable companies offering vocational employment and the Industrial Training Employment Record forms are available from the School's Office. For additional help students should consult their plan co-ordinators.

Industrial Training forms must be completed as part of this placement.

Students are required to have these forms completed by their employer and returned to The School of Materials Science and Engineering Office (Ms Flora Lau, Room 110).
