Ceramic Engineering

Ceramic Engineering is a Science and Technology course that teaches the scienceand technology involved in the production of ceramic products.

While traditional ceramics are amongst the oldest of manufactured goods and include bricks, tiles, plates, pottery, glass, refractories, and cement, the new generation of high-tech ceramics includes solid-state electronics, magnetic materials, automobile engine parts, space shuttle insulation, superconductors, and many other products in newly merging areas.

Ceramic Engineering is concerned with the use of ceramic raw materials, which include clays as well as high-purity chemicals, to manufacture products that can show useful properties such as thermal stability (refractories), wear resistance (abrasives and cutting tools), chemical durability (glass), and structural stability (bricks and tiles).

The objective of the course is to equip students with the professional expertise and background in science and engineering necessary to work effectively as senior engineers, technologists, sales engineers, or managers in the ceramic or other materials industries.
