Why Materials at UNSW The School of Materials Science and Engineering at UNSW is highly regarded with an international reputation for high calibre graduates at bachelor, master and doctorate levels.
The staff of the School are active members of prestigious international professional societies and attend conferences around the world. Staff continue to gain international awards and other recognition for their innovative research.
The School is well equipped and receives strong industry support through the Cooperative Education Programme and from sponsored research grants. The School is innovating in many areas of research and houses several Cooperative Research Centres.
The School offers a broad range of undergraduate programs. The School is unique in Australia, offering a broadly based course in Materials Engineering alongside its specialist courses in Ceramic Engineering and Metallurgical Engineering. Common content permits transfer between these courses up to the end of Year 2. All three courses qualify for graduate membership of the Institution of Engineers, Australia. The Ceramic Engineering course at UNSW is internationally recognised, permitting graduates membership in the Institute of Materials (UK) (previous known as the Institute of Ceramics (UK)), the National Institute of Ceramic Engineers (USA), and the Royal Australian Chemical Institute. The University of New South Wales offers the only Ceramic Engineering degree course in Australasia.
Graduates from the School of Materials Science and Engineering have excellent career prospects both in areas of innovation and established industries.
Additionally, the University of New South Wales offers a huge range of support services for students, opportunities for student exchange and many scholarships. Sydney and UNSW are a great location to study.
