New Staff Profile: Scientia Senior Lecturer, Dr Tushar Kumeira

Our New Staff member Tushar Kumeira joins us as Scientia Senior Lecturer. He is an NHMRC Early Career Fellow with a research focus on porous nanomaterials. He received his B. Tech and M. Tech degree from Amity University, India in 2011 and Ph.D. from the School of Chemical Engineering, the University of Adelaide (UoA) in 2015. After Ph.D., he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California-San Diego (UCSD), USA. In 2017, he joined the University of Queensland (UQ)-School of Pharmacy as a UQ Development Fellow and NHMRC NHMRC Early Career Fellow (in 2018).

Tushar has authored 67 peer-reviewed publications and 7 book chapters in various internationally renowned journals in the field of nanomaterials, biomaterials, sensing, and drug delivery. His work is cited more than 1795 times on Scopus and returns an h-index of 25. His research expertise lies in nanoporous materials and their composites.

Researcher working with equipment
He is interested in functional porous nanomaterials and his research focuses generation of nanoengineered porous materials for drug delivery, bioimaging, sensing, and tissue engineering. Through his research, Tushar aims to develop new porous functional materials and train the future generation on advanced research skills.
His research priorities are:
1. Porous photonic crystals based point-of-care sensors for diagnostics and environmental applications.
2. Porous materials based delivery systems and devices with a key emphasis on protein/biologics delivery.
3. Porous materials/Polymer composite based scaffolds/implants with for tissue regeneration.
