Open Day 2021

The University held its second fully online Open Day on Saturday. While the School could not star on-campus with our amazing Open Day tent and display, our staff and students ensured that the online day was just as inspiring to our future students! Open Day is always extremely important for the School as it is the biggest event in the domestic undergraduate recruitment calendar and often a major factor in a student’s decision to study materials science & engineering.

Students interested in hearing more about materials science and engineering were able to watch a pre-recorded Q&A video about the school and our students' experience and chat online with our staff and students.

The day would not be possible without the fantastic support from our volunteer students and staff who took a large chunk out of their Saturday (and prior to the day) to provide online assistance, lectures and advice to prospective students and their families.

In no particular order, I would like to thank our academic staff member, Judy Hart, and our MASTSOC President, Scott Jones, who recorded the Spotlight on Materials Science and Engineering on-demand lecture video from home during lockdown. I also thank Sherry Chen, Hubert Lee, Scott Jones and Alexis Schteinman who were our amazing student helpers for the online advisory booth answering questions from future students about studying materials science and engineering and the student experience. Of our staff, I thank Paul Munroe, Caitlin Healy, Danyang Wang, Damia Mawad, Ben Pace and Owen Standard as our academic helpers for the online advisory booth. Finally, I would like to thank Scarlet Kong, the School’s Community & Current Student Engagement Officer (and senior PhD student!), for the superb leadership in organising the event for the School, both leading up to and on the day!
