The University Medal is one of the most distinguished awards to be bestowed on an undergraduate student and recognises outstanding academic performance. We are overjoyed to have two university medallists this year, Joel Luke Abraham (Honours supervisor Kevin Laws) who won the award in the Bachelor of Engineering (Materials Science) (Honours) program and Madi Moar (Honours supervisor Koshy) who won the award for the Bachelor of Engineering (Materials Science) (Honours)/Master of Biomedical Engineering. Congratulations to our inspirational medal winners and their supervisors!
Joel Luke Abraham
Joel is a metallurgy major who enjoys investigating and improving the performance of industrial materials. Over the past two years, he has been working as a Vacation Engineer at InfraBuild Steel, Rooty Hill, enhancing quality, safety and efficiency in the manufacturing of bar-shaped products from scrap steel. He is now undertaking his PhD in the school under the supervision of Dr Pramod Koshy.
Madi completed their honours thesis exploring ceramic nanoparticles coated with bio-polymer used for cancer treatment. They have always had a passion to investigate biomimetic and sustainable materials. Madi is now undertaking a carpentry apprenticeship and hopes to use their skills and knowledge in the materials field to influence more sustainable materials choices in the construction industry.
